Genealogy of the Simpson Family

In recent years I have become increasingly interested in the history of both my own and Helen's families. (My Uncle Donald, who provided a wealth of information about the Simpson side, described it as a sure sign of growing old!).

Some of the principal names and locations in our ancestry are:

Names Locations
Simpson and Gordon Banf and Strathdon areas of Scotland
Sutton and Mortimer West Riding of Yorkshire
Harold Liverpool and West Indies
Goodall and Cottrell Liverpool, Birkenhead & Knaresborough
Parsons, Eeley and Freeborn Oxfordshire

There are several ways to view the Simpson Family Tree:

A Dynamic Pedigree View - Created by RootsMagic (Updated 2015-01-07)
Displays the complete tree. Dates and other details have been excluded for people still living. This is the preferred way to view the tree and is the only version which will be regularly updated as I discover more about the family. So this is the place to come for the most up-to-date information.

Various Alternative Views

As a Java Applet - Created by DftCom2

Part of our family tree can be viewed in detail starting from the list of SURNAMES or the index of PERSONS included here.

This is only about a fifth of the family members in our database and just includes Judith's direct ancestors and their immediate family. As with the other trees, dates and other details have been excluded for people still living. This is not a very elegant format to view but it has the enormous advantage over the other trees, that the names and dates are all visible to web search engines. So people searching for a particular name and date will find it here. This has resulted in many contacts over the years from distant family members, of whose presence I was previously unaware.

Alternatively if your browser supports Java, click HERE to load a Dynamic Family Tree.

This was my original preferred way of viewing the complete tree. Sadly the security shambles into which Java has degenerated, means that very few browsers are now configured to display Java applets from web sites. If you do have such a browser you may well like to give this version of the tree a try. It contains the complete database but again dates and other details have been excluded for people still living. I am unlikely to keep this tree up to date.

A classic Family Tree layout - Created using Ratcatchers2Royalty
(Data last updated 2009-04-13)
This tree was prepared using the Beta 4 release of the experimental Family Tree Publisher program from the fledgling Ratcatchers2Royalty team.

Click HERE to view the tree in this format.

N.B. The tree will open in a new browser window, or a new tab if your browser supports tabbed browsing. Close this window or tab when you have finished viewing the tree, to return here.

Like the HTML pages, this tree includes only about a fifth of the family members in our database and just includes Judith's direct ancestors and their immediate family. Dates and other details have been excluded for people still living.

Sadly the program appears never to have progressed beyond this Beta 4 release. The team's original web site at www.Ratcatchers2Royalty no longer exists but the contents can now be viewed at http://www.mendedit.co.uk/Ratcatchers2Royalty/index.htm or if that fails it can be found via the "Wayback Machine" at http://web.archive.org/web/20120123032810/http://www.ratcatchers2royalty.co.uk/index.htm)

Some of our more interesting ancestors are:

Name Location
William Capernicus Harold St Vincent in the West Indies
Walter & Ellen Freeborn Butcher in St.Clements, Oxford
(Watch this space for more!)

We are always interested in sharing information with anyone else having links to any of these families.

Please email Alan Simpson if you see any names you recognise.
